Local County Farm Service Agency Nominations Due August 1

WAYNE – Nominations have been accepted since June 15 for the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Farm Service Agency (FSA) County Committee election season.

According to a release from the Wayne County FSA Office, these committees operate within official federal regulations and provide local input on things such as: Income safety-net loans and payments, including setting county average yields; conservation programs; Incentive, indemnity and disaster payments; emergency programs and payment eligibility.

FSA County Committees consist of locally-elected farmers and ranchers who apply their judgement and knowledge to help with FSA programs in their counties, ensuring the needs of local producers are met.

An informational meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, July 25 at 2 p.m. from the Wayne County FSA Office. The office is located at 709 Providence Road.

There are three County Committee members in Wayne County. Townships up for election this year consist of Garfield, Chapin, Hoskins and Hancock. With the nomination period closing at the end of July, forms must be postmarked or received in the office by August 1. Ballots will be going out to eligible voters in November.

Other important dates during the election season are in ballots will be submitted and counted in December as members and alternates will take office in January.
