Little Red Hen Theatre Prepares For Season 2021: Live, Love, Laugh! Opener

WAKEFIELD – Following a year of just virtual performances, a northeast Nebraska theatre is looking forward to welcome in live audiences for ‘Season 2021: Live, Love, Laugh!’

According to a release from the Little Red Hen Theatre, this year’s season aims at bringing the community together through the power of laughter.

Managing Director of the Little Red Hen Theatre in Wakefield, Adam Goos said the group has been incredibly grateful this past year.

“We’ve done a lot of experimentation with streaming and filming shows with no audience there to react,” said Goos. “We’re very grateful for the support that we’ve got, but we’re also so excited to be able to get back to a little bit more of a traditional model.”

Season 2021: Live, Love, Laugh! will begin with the boy-wizard-themed parody ““PUFFS – or seven increasingly eventful years at a certain school of magic & magic” which wizard and muggle-born theater goers alike will enjoy. The opening play will last from April 15 – 18.

Moving into July, the Little Red Hen goes on a magical romp in the swamp with the popular Broadway show “SHREK the Musical” (July 15 – 18). Then, in December, the theatre promises some stocking-stuffer action with the hilariously irreverent “A Very Die-Hard Christmas” (December 9 – 11).

Goos added the house limit is being reduced to 50% capacity for the opening four performances of “PUFFS” in April.

“Just for safety and asking our audiences to wear masks,” Goos added. “Our actors are rehearsing in masks and will be doing the show in face shields just so we can still kind of be within the current safety protocols of what we need to do for this show; that’s why we’re doing four performances.”

The show will also be available via a stream from April 23 – May 1.

Tickets went on sale on April 1. Call the box office at 402-287-2818 or purchase tickets online at Ticket prices for the live production are $8 for students or seniors and $10 for adults while the streaming prices will be $11 for a single ticket or a $20 fee to stream for your family or a group of people.

“If you need to purchase tickets for two people or more, I encourage you to call in so that we can arrange some socially distance seating for you,” Goos mentioned. “Right now, the box office is set for pairs but we can sit any group together that belongs in one group and make sure there is enough space around you.”

Season 2021: Live, Love, Laugh! also features a special presentation of Josh Hoyer & Soul Colossal, a classic rock group who mixes in a heavy dose of soul, funk and blues. Josh Hoyer and Soul Colossal will bring their energetic show to the Theatre on November 5.

Also, in early October, the Little Red Hen theatre will present a Murder Mystery Dinner experience at the new Wakefield Civic Center.

The theatre will also be creating several experiences for the community through their educational offerings. In May Little Red Hen Theatre regulars will take their turn in the directing chair for Director’s Fest, An Evening of Scenes. Young participants will get their chance to shine at the theatre’s DRAMA CAMP June 14 -19. In September participants of all ages can help bring the words of William Shakespeare to life through staged readings at Shakespeare Outdoors.
