Little Red Hen Theatre Announces 2020 Season, ‘Connections & Family’ Theme Runs Through All Shows

WAKEFIELD – Over the course of 2020, the Little Red Hen Theatre will showcase a comedy, a Broadway musical and a Christmas carol including a special presentation.

The “Connections & Family” 2020 season at the Little Red Hen Theatre was released in mid-January. The theatre is located at 316 Main Street in Wakefield.

Adam Goos is the managing director at Little Red Hen Theatre. Several volunteers and Goos began thinking about season 2020 almost as last year’s season was planned. The group read a variety of plays, brainstormed musicals and rated them.

Goos said from the recommendations the shows were selected.

“What would also present really great opportunities for people in the local area to experience the events,” said Goss. “Both on stage as actors or off-stage as backstage technicians and of course as audience members who would enjoy seeing these stories unfold on stage.”

This season the Little Red Hen theatre will produce the hilarious “Nana’s Naughty Knickers” by Katherine DiSavino, the fun and juicy Broadway musical “James and the Giant Peach”, and a lively presentation of Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol” adapted by Doris Baizley. The theatre will also present the smooth soul and funk of Josh Hoyer & Soul Colossal in a live music performance for their annual patron special.

Performance dates for the first show of “Nana’s Naughty Knickers” will be presented March 20 – 22; Roald Dahl’s “James and the Giant Peach” July 16 – 19 and the season will come to an end December 4 – 6 with an inventive adaption of Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol”.

The season also includes a special presentation on October 17 of “Josh Hoyer & Soul Colossal”. The group produces soul, funk and blues music as Hoyer is a part the touring artist roster from the Nebraska Arts Council for music.

“Josh was actually featured on the national TV show ‘The Voice’ and was a competitor there a few years ago,” Goos added. “But since then has put this band together and has toured both regionally as well as internationally across in Europe.”

Educational activities will also feature a “DRAMA CAMP” June 15 – 19 for students ages 6-15 and two weekends of intensive workshops for students and adults ages 16 and older.

Auditions for “Nana’s Naughty Knickers” is set for Thursday, January 23 from 6 – 8 p.m. at the theatre in Wakefield. The cast calls for five women and three men of various ages and an additional role that can be played by either a male or female. Rehearsals will begin the week of February 3.

Individual tickets will be sold closer to the show dates but the theatre is offering season subscriptions, or patronages, for a limited time. Patrons can purchase one, two or four ticket packages that guarantee them reserved seats at each production and offering, as well as the opportunity to purchase additional tickets in advance of the general public.
