NORFOLK – Nebraska, “the home of Arbor Day,” has a long history of planting trees. They provide shade and shelter for homes and wildlife, reduce soil erosion, and add beauty to the great plains landscape.
Over the last couple decades, communities have lost 18 percent of their tree canopy, according to the Nebraska Forest Service.
Place an order with the Lower Elkhorn Natural Resources District (LENRD) by March 8th to assure arrival of your trees by April. In addition, the district is happy to help with windbreak designs and renovation projects. Natural Resources Districts in Nebraska plant more than 700,000 trees per year.
Getting an order in before March 8th will provide selection of which species of tree to plant. For more information, visit www.lenrd.org/tree-catalog.
