Legacy Fund To Host Chamber Coffee Friday Morning

WAYNE – Join the Wayne Area Legacy Fund during a weekly Wayne Area Economic Development event.

From the Majestic Theatre, located at 310 Main Street, the group will welcome in community members at 10 a.m. on Friday, October 2. The ChamberPercs, virtual format will start at 10:15 a.m. on the Wayne, NE Facebook page.

Bill Dickey is the Fund Advisory Committee Chairman in Wayne. He said in the fall of 2017 the group held a visioning session based off what happened in the late 80s and early 90s when Kay Orr was the governor.

“She had a start program,” said Dickey. “At that time, they assessed what the needs were in the community. Hadn’t been done for many years and so we decided this would be a good time to try to sit back and evaluate where we need to go as a community.”

The Wayne Area Legacy Fund is dedicated to building an endowment that will grow and provide funding for generations to come. Those eligible for grant money need to be a non-profit organization in the Wayne Area (Wayne County).

Fund Advisory Committee Member, Eric Knutson added there are several projects to give to in the Wayne Area, but the Wayne Area Legacy Fund is an endowed fund that will continue to grow.

“We’ll be able to give those foundations if they have big projects,” Knutson added. “We’ll be able to give to others areas of the community. My thoughts it could be anything from a scholarship to park equipment.”

The vision of the Wayne Area Legacy Fund is to foster collaborative relationships between education, agriculture, healthcare and commerce to promote a bright, fun and prosperous future.
