Laurel Poker Run Is A Go, Scheduled For Saturday, August 8

WAYNE – The Laurel Chamber Community Club has the Laurel Poker Run event planned for Saturday, August 8. Knuckleheadz Bar in Laurel will be the epicenter of all activities, with stops in Magnet, Randolph, Coleridge, and Dixon. There will be a cash prize for best hand of the day decided at 5:30 p.m.

Rachel Steffen is the Co-President of the Laurel Chamber Community Club. She described the poker run route starting at 1 p.m. on Saturday.

“The route will start in Magnet, at the Magnet Bar in Magnet, Nebraska,” she said. “We’ll head to The Druken Moose in Randolph, and then meander over to Rodeo’s in Coleridge, and then to Euni’s Palace in Dixon, and then we’ll wind back up at Knucklheadz in Laurel to finish the route.”

The rest of the day’s festivities will occur in Laurel. At 5 p.m. Laurel Fire and Rescue will be grilling hamburgers and hotdogs benefiting the fire department. It’ll be $3 for a hotdog or hamburger and $5 for a meal. Free-will donations will be accepted. Steffen mentioned where visitors can find the grill out.

“The Fire – Rescue meal will be just to the east of the bar. There’s a little grassy area and we’ll set up on the street on the corner where we have in the past,” Steffen stated.

There will be games organized on the grassy area that Steffen mentioned, called Family Fun Night. The Family Night Fun events will go from 5 – 8 p.m. Steffen said that Jumbo Jenga, chalk, cornhole, ladder golf, and bocce ball are all possible things for the fun night.

Steffen addressed some health measures that will need to be followed for Saturday’s events.

“Social distance the best that we can. We’ll stay in normal guidelines, and Fire and Rescue, everybody (people preparing food) will wear masks and gloves. Ketchup and mustard bottles, we’ll use packets instead of bottles. As far as tables and that kind of stuff, we’ll keep those clean.”

Registration is from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Knuckleheadz. All vehicles are welcome on the poker run. It costs $10 per hand and $25 for three hands.

Laurel Chamber Community Club hopes they can host their Night of Lights event in December, but is playing it by ear. For more information about the Laurel Poker Run and other Laurel Chamber Community Club activities, call Rachel Steffen at 402-750-4077.
