Last Day Of 2017-18 School Year Set, Teacher Resignations Approved With Regret

WAYNE – Several teacher resignations with regret along with a denial for a teacher to release from contact were heard during the regularly scheduled Wayne Community Schools Board of Education meeting Monday evening.

From the Wayne Junior/Senior High School Library the three resignations were for Emily Duerst (yearbook sponsor), Brooke Reeson (elementary SPED) and Jennifer Cliff (guidance). Mallorie Koch has been approved by the board to be the 7-12 English Learners/5-6 Keyboarding Instructor.

Tracy Anderson approached the board about being released from her contract as Vocal Instructor with WCS for a position in Norfolk. The position would be a career advancement and felt like it was the next step for herself. The Norfolk High School Director didn’t decide until late February to retire.

With the contract due date approaching on Sunday, April 15, School Board members decided to deny the request to release Anderson from her contract since it would be difficult to find a candidate to replace her within a week. The board praised Anderson for what she has done in the Fine Arts Department and appreciated the hard work and performances from this past weekend musical.

The final days of school for the year were set. Wayne High seniors will report for their final day on Tuesday, May 8 (graduation on Saturday, May 12 at 2 p.m.); preschool last day is Friday, May 11 (graduation on Monday, May 14 at 7 p.m.); K-11 students last day is Friday, May 18 with a noon dismissal and the teachers last day is Thursday, May 24.

Wayne Community Schools approved two quotes from Sterling Sales for dell chromebooks and chromebook carts. Both quotes were within the budget for $33,992.66. Another quote approval came from Harris Solutions for the upgrade to the Aptafund accounting software and training for $21,160.

The next regularly scheduled Wayne Community Schools Board of Education meeting is set for Monday, May 14 at 5 p.m.
