Largest Outdoor Expo In Midwest Canceled

PONCA – A popular northeast Nebraska outdoor event that attracts 52,000 attendees and showcases 26 schools has been canceled.

According to a release from the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission, the event has been called off due to the unpredictable nature of COVID-19 health situation and potential public health restrictions for the fall.

The 2020 Missouri River Outdoor Expo at Ponca State Park would have marked the 16th annual event. The Expo, scheduled each September, offers over 90 hands-on activities featuring outdoor education, sports and recreation with something for everyone to do.

The free fun-filled, family friendly weekend is made possible each year through the support of generous sponsors, education exhibitors and 900+ dedicated volunteers.

Game and Parks officials plan on bringing back the Outdoor Expo in 2021 which will mark the 100th anniversary of Nebraska State Parks.

The decision to cancel the popular event was unanimously rendered by the Expo Advisory Board, which consists of Game and Parks representatives and numerous private sector representatives as well as volunteers.
