Krist to Ricketts: Talk Tough to Pence

Omaha, NE.—Under the heading better late than never, Democratic candidate for governor Bob Krist is pushing Gov. Pete Ricketts to talk tough on trade to Vice President Mike Pence today.

Pence is in Omaha tonight for a Ricketts fundraiser, just days after President Trump threatened a trade war that has Nebraska farmers on edge.

Krist is piggy-backing on the Nebraska Farm Bureau complaints (noted in this report by News Channel Nebraska) that charging countries higher tariffs on US steel and aluminum will be hit in return with higher prices for Nebraska corn and beef.

Krist says Ricketts should tell Pence to stop Trump’s “foolhardy and dangerous threats” to farmers and ranchers.

As News Channel Nebraska has reported a spokesman for Ricketts insists the governor has already told the Trump Administration the potential impact the steel tariffs may have on Nebraska businesses and the possible retaliation on Nebraska farmers.
