LINCOLN – The Nebraska Department of Education awarded Katherine Steinkamp as the 2020 State History Teacher of the Year. Steinkamp teaches Social Sciences at Norfolk High School. The award is sponsored by The Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History.
This award highlights the importance of excellent American History teachers. The History Teacher of the Year award goes to one K-12 history teacher in each of the 50 states, the District of Columbia, Department of Defense schools, and U.S. territories.
Steinkamp has a love for teaching and she isn’t scared to try something new, especially if it could help her students learn and grow. Her greatest asset is the passion she shows for her students.
Katherine Steinkamp will receive $1,000. Additionally, Norfolk High School will become a Gilder Lehrman Affiliate School. With that affiliation, Norfolk High School is allotted history books and other learning materials from the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History. Along with those benefits, Steinkamp is now a finalist for the $10,000 award of National History Teacher of the Year.
