July, August Moon Walk Events To Be Featured During Stars, Strolls And S’mores Activities

NORFOLK – Over the next month make a trip to a pair of parks in northeast Nebraska for 2020 Stars, Strolls and S’mores activities.

According to a release from the Lower Elkhorn Natural Resources District, there are several opportunities to explore the nature of Nebraska in the area. The Nebraska Game & Parks Commission along with LENRD officials and the Norfolk Area Visitors Bureau wants to help you discover area trails, lakes and wild places. Stars, Strolls & S’mores will highlight the unique opportunities nighttime offers with their Moon Walk event.

The purpose of the moon walk is to provide a family-oriented activity that introduces the cultural and natural history of area trails and lakes.

The Moon Walks are held on Wednesday evenings close to the full moon and begin at 7:30 p.m. as most Moon Walks last for one to two hours. Each Moon Walk will start with a short introduction of that evening’s program, followed by a stroll to the designated presentations.

The July event will be held on Wednesday, July 8 at Verges Park in Norfolk with presentations including Birds, Caves, Monarchs and Migration. The August moon walk will be Wednesday, August 5 at Maskenthine Lake located north of Stanton with presentations showcasing Mothing and Owls.

Each evening normally concludes with s’mores around the campfire. However, due to COVID-19, there will not be a campfire, but a ‘take home’ snack instead. Event officials hope to have the campfires back in 2021.

The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) guidelines will be followed and the events will be limited to the first 75 people.
