MADISON COUNTY – The Madison County Sheriff’s Department is warning the public of an inheritance letter scam.
Authorities say the letter will have no return address. It will explain that an unknown relative died, leaving a sizable inheritance. A personal e-mail response is requested by the sender.
The scam artist will usually ask you for your social security number or other personal banking information.
If you suspect you have received such a letter, please notify your local law enforcement agency.
Do not try to contact the sender.
