Immanuel Lutheran Church Celebrating 150 years

BEEMER — Hundreds gathered in Beemer for the 150th celebration of the Immanuel Lutheran Church’s founding.

Sunday’s church gathering included a special sermon featuring Reverend Michael Frese, of Indiana, and the great-great grandnephew of Immanuel Lutheran’s first ever pastor,  Adolf Wilhelm Frese.

“I was asked to preach because of my relationship to the very first pastor to this congregation and the ceremony that just ended was a celebration of that 150 years that the lord has worked through this congregation to bring people to faith and Jesus Christ.”

The church’s current pastor, Reverend Robert Mayes, said that people as far as Washington State and Florida have made the journey to enjoy the special sermon in person.

The ceremony also included Roger Schepmann, the church’s former pastor of 29 years  before his retirement in 2010. He said his fondest memories of Beemer was that most of the congregants had a farm background and knew the value of hard work and were devout Christians.
