Ice Storm Causes Power Outages In Northeast Nebraska

Areas of Norfolk, Pierce, Meadow Grove effected

NORFOLK, Neb. — Nearly 600 NPPD customers, in addition to an as-yet-unnumbered number of Northeast Power customers, lost power late Saturday afternoon as the region was struck by an early-March storm.

With high winds, rain, hail and cooling temperatures, Norfolk and the surrounding areas faced a series of power outages.

According to NPPD, approximately 575 people had lost power by 5:30 p.m., with power expected to be restored by 8:00 for most customers. By 8:30 p.m., approximately 200 people remained without power, including in Norfolk and Meadow Grove. Northeast Power reported an outage that remained in affect, impacting most of the town of Pierce.

As of 8pm Saturday night, crews were on the scene to try and repair the issue, which is currently being attributed to the weather.
