HUMPHREY – The Nebraska Department of Transportation has announced that a Restricted Crossing U-Turn, also known as a RCUT, is needed to address concerns at the intersection of Highways 81 and 91 near Humphrey.
The announcement comes after the NDOT completed its review of public comments and study on the intersection.
The project need is based on a history of crashes as well as a concern of traffic congestion.
The RCUT has been shown to decrease right-angle crashes on four-lane divided highways in other states.
Public information meetings were held last November to share information regarding the design and held meetings with stakeholders.
The NDOT has prioritized the $1.9 million project for 2019.
Construction will begin this spring with completion anticipated this fall.
