Hartington Man Passes One Day After Crash In Cedar County

CEDAR COUNTY – A two vehicle traffic accident was reported earlier this week in northeast Nebraska leading to one death.

According to a release from the Cedar County Sheriff’s office Wednesday morning, the office was notified about the accident at 5:21 p.m. on Monday, November 4. The accident took place at the intersection of Highway 12 and Highway 81 in Cedar County.

An eastbound Ford pickup truck driven by 86-year old Jacob Keiter of Hartington failed to come to a stop at the stop sign at the intersection of Hwy 12 and 81. A southbound Ford pickup truck driven by 45-year old Shane Pedersen of Pierce collided with Keiter in the intersection.

Keiter was then transported to Avera Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton, South Dakota and later transported to Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls. On Tuesday, November 5 Jacob Keiter died as a result of his injuries from the accident.

Keiter was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the accident and Shane Pederson was wearing his seatbelt.

The Cedar County Sheriff’s office was assisted no the scene by the Crofton Fire Department and Crofton EMS.
