BROKEN BOW— More details have been released following the announcement that the public hearing regarding the grievances filed against Broken Bow Mayor Jonathon Berghorst was postponed.

In a document filed with City Clerk Stephanie Wright and obtained by KCNI/KBBN through public records request, Officer Ben Tucker’s attorney requested that the meeting be postponed due to an investigation into the Mayor for possible criminal prosecution.

According to the letter filed, Officer Tucker’s attorney has, “waived and/or asked to extend the timelines for hearing on the grievance filed due to being informed the Attorney General’s Office for the State of Nebraska is currently investigating Mayor Berghorst for possible criminal prosecution arising out of facts related to the grievance filed by Officer Tucker.”

The letter continues, “While [Officer Tucker and his attorney] are reserving the right to be heard on the grievance at a later time, we do not want to compromise any ongoing criminal investigation into the Mayor’s actions.”

The letter concludes with an agreement saying that the parties “are willing to hold any hearings on the grievance following the decision by the Attorney General’s Office on filing of criminal charges against the Mayor.”
