WAYNE – Wayne Area Girl Scouts are beginning their Annual Cookie Drive today and will continue a tradition that is now over 100 years old.
The annual Cookie Sale event is a major fund-raising project for Girl Scouts across the country and will take place from now through Sunday, March 21.
Girl Scout Cadet Leader Brandy Saltzman stated booths will be set up at different businesses.
“You can watch the Facebook pages and things like that for information on those booths,” said Saltzman. “They’ll also be posted on the Girl Scouts website. They have a cookie locater on there so you can find where the booths are going to be at around the different areas.”
This year’s Cookie Drive will feature a new offering. Brandy’s daughter Joslyn talks about what’s new this year.
“We have a new cookie called the Toast-Yay,” Joslyn added. “It’s like French toast but it’s dipped in icing. It has the girl scout logo on the front with the French toast icing on the back and it’s shaped like a piece of toast.”
Plus, all of the usual favorites will be available again this year including Lemonades (cookie with the lemon icing on the bottom); Shortbread; Thin Mints; Peanut Butter Patties; Caramel deLites; Peanut Butter Sandwiches and a limited supply of the gluten-free variety being the Caramel Chocolate Chip cookies. This will also be the final year for the Girl Scout S’mores, so make sure to stock up on those.
Customers purchasing Girl Scout Cookies are making an investment in their community as all of the proceeds stay in the state to benefit the Spirit of Nebraska council and its members. Girls use the funds for leadership experiences, travel, camping and to create positive changes in their communities.
If you wish to purchase cookies, look for one of the local stands that will be set up or call Brandy at 402-369-0569.
“The girls will have cookies on hand where they’ll be taking orders,” said Saltzman. “So, if they have the cookies on hand, you can just buy them directory from any of the girl scouts here in town. Or they’ll take your order and then get the cookies to you. We’ll be having cookie booths around town beginning February 19 running through the end of sales on March 21.
