PONCA – Open the month of February at Ponca State Park during their weekend activities.
Beginning Saturday, February 2, bundle up for a winter hike at 9:30 a.m. Hikers will explore the backwater of the Missouri River while learning how to identify tracks and trees. Snow-shoes will be available for this free event. Meet by the white van at the head of the Backwater Trail.
Hang out with a naturalist during an 11 a.m. “Let’s Get Tracking” event. Discover shapes and patterns that animals leave in the snow and then make your own wacky tracks. Limited to 30 participants, pre-register and meet at the Resource and Education Center.
Closing out the afternoon there will be an ice fishing clinic from 1:30 – 3:30 p.m. Learn how to catch and clean rainbow trout as all equipment and bait will be provided. Anyone 16 years old and older will need a fishing license. Meet at the pond near the Resource and Education Center.
If the ice is not thick enough for fishing, visitors are welcome to tour the educational displays.
