PONCA – Identify trees and enjoy an ice fishing clinic this weekend at Ponca State Park.
Plan on bringing the family out to Ponca State Park on Saturday, February 8 starting at 10 a.m. for a ‘Winter Trees’ event. Join a park naturalist learning how to ID trees in the winter from twigs, bark and canopy structure. Participants will go on a hike near the Resource and Education Center to practice tree identification.
Moving into the afternoon, an ice fishing clinic will take place from 1:30 – 3 p.m. Stop by the pond to learn how to catch and clean rainbow trout as all equipment and bait will be provided. Anyone 16 years old and above will need a fishing license to patriciate.
If there isn’t enough ice for ice fishing, visitors are welcome to go on a scheduled hike at 2 p.m. by meeting at the Resource and Education Center.
Next week the park will also be hosting their ‘Birds & Breakfast Weekend’ on Saturday, February 15. Breakfast will be served from 8 until 10 a.m. Next Saturday will also feature bird count tours, guests will build a birdfeeder and play bird-bingo.
