Free Event Scheduled For Sunday Honoring 25 Years Of Service For Local RC&D

PONCA – The Resource Conservation & Development (RC&D) Council has been a part of northeast Nebraska since July of 1993 and will be celebrating their 25 years of service with a free event this weekend.

Scheduled for Sunday, October 7, the local RC&D group will be celebrated and honored at Ponca State Park.

According to a release, activities will take place from 2 – 4 p.m. in the River Bluff Room at the state park’s main headquarters building. Projects will be showcased, music will be playing and refreshments served.

There will also be opportunities to tour Ponca’s Blacksmith Shop and the Adams House, follow the local barn quilt trail and to take a hayrack ride through Ponca State Park.

Volunteers from Antelope, Cedar, Dixon, Knox, Pierce and Wayne counties make up the leadership board of this local non-profit. Being part of that group and meeting new people is a highlight for those that have been board members.

Originally the RC&D program was supported by federal dollars, but since April of 2011 RC&D Councils around the nation have been on their own to maintain their operations. Thanks to the generosity of the landlord and financial support from their six sponsoring Counties, four Natural Resource Districts and two Tribes along with some individual members the Northeast Nebraska RC&D Council has been able to continue offering recycling collections, educational tours and events, environmental projects, the Farmers Market and more.

The Northeast Nebraska RC&D Council looks forward to continuing their service to citizens through projects that will make life better for people in Antelope, Cedar, Dixon, Knox, Pierce and Wayne counties.
