Foul Play Continued Through Saturday, Chicken Show Parade Highlighted Prior To Contests

WAYNE – As the fog cleared, day two of the 38th annual Wayne Chicken Show provided several events for all ages Saturday.

Main events were moved to Bressler Park as the parade route started downtown and came by the park. Parade winners were Wakefield Balloon Days (#43) for best theme of “Welcome to Fabulous Wayne America”, Providence Medical Center (#81) for best chicken related and Dairy Queen (#13) for best Children’s float.

Executive Director, Luke Virgil with Wayne Area Economic Development would like to thank the Wayne Rotary Club for lining everyone up.

“I think everybody played ball really nice,” said Virgil. “They got lined up, they went through the parade, it was a nice long parade with over 100 entries. We appreciated that everybody comes out and does that parade for us and the kids got lots of candy.”

Chicken show contests attracted folks from not just the surrounding communities around Wayne, but those from the Midwest, east coast and west coast.

One p.m. contests started with chicken scratch for prizes where three age groups had a chance to dig for $500 worth in quarters, followed by live chicken flying, little chicken cement auction, best chicken legs, the National Cluck-off and an egg-eating contest. The group then moved to Lincoln Street for rubber chicken chuck, eggs toss and egg drop/catch.

Water Fights closed out the afternoon activities where area Fire Departments battled each other for a trophy.

Virgil added the weekend isn’t over yet as Sunday attendees can visit the Wayne Municipal Airport.

“Go into the Nancy Braden Terminal and get out onto the tarmac,” Virgil added. “They’ve got a food cart out there, they’re going to have fly-ins, there’s a car show and then everything kind of wraps up at 1 o’clock and that’ll be the poker run.”

Cluck-tibles and the egg sling shot will also be at the airport along with breakfast and lunch from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.
