Former Norfolk Man Pleads No Contest to Sexual Assault Charge

STANTON, NE — A former Norfolk man faces up to fifty years in prison after pleading no contest to sexual assault charges on Monday.

Stanton County Sheriff Mike Unger says 60-year-old Paul Lovell entered a no contest plea to a charge of First Degree Sexual Assault. The plea was accepted by District Judge Mark Johnson.

Lovell was arrested in March after a four-month investigation by the Stanton County Sheriff’s Office into the possible sexual assault of a pre-teen girl in Stanton over seven years ago. Sheriff Unger says Lovell was identified as a suspect and initially cooperated with the Sheriff’s Office before quickly leaving the area. Lovell was arrested in Kansas and extradited to Nebraska.

He will be sentenced in February and remains in custody.
