Forecasted Snow Totals Increase

VALLEY, NE — Residents in southeast Nebraska should get their shovels ready.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for 19 counties in the southeast region of the state starting at 6:00 PM Friday and lasting through noon on Saturday.

Forecasters initially predicted a maximum of five inches in the extreme southeast Nebraska.  The NWS now estimate that accumulation could amount to as much as eight inches in Falls City.  The service also increased the region that could receive four or more inches of snow.  Meteorologists say there is potential for a narrow band of heavier snow amounts to develop.

The NWS says the heaviest snowfall will begin around 8:00 PM and last until the early morning hours on Saturday.  The snow is expected to be fairly wet, meaning it will be heavy and could cause isolated power outages.

The wind is predicted to remain less than 20 miles per hour, lessening the chances of blizzard conditions.
