Final Farmers Market Slated For Saturday

WAYNE – The Wayne Farmers Market will hold their final market of the 2019 season this weekend.

Starting in early June, the Wayne Farmers Market had several options from vendor numbers ranging between four to 12 throughout the summer into fall months. From baked good, to garden produce, some crafts, eggs, jams and jellies and more, the farmers market offers a wide variety of items.

Clara Osten has been attending the Wayne Farmers Market for over a decade and offers eggs through ‘Clara Cluckers Exotic Eggs’. Osten said the customers seemed to enjoy the extra space back at the courthouse lawn.

“The Wayne Markers is as much a social event as it is a market,” said Osten. “We have a lot of people who meet their friends there and will chat for a half an hour. So, having a lot of space, maybe a little less traffic gives them an opportunity to do that.”

The WFM Grand Opening was held during Chicken Days and will have their final market on Saturday, October 26 from 9 a.m. until noon. The Wayne Farmers Market returned to the Wayne County Courthouse (510 N Pearl St). but on the west lawn.

Music was also provided by Alan Bruflat for most of the Wednesday’s until school started.

This past Wednesday was a bit cold but still went well with the faithful customers that come to almost every market showing up.

Osten added Saturday will be the final market.

“I know there’ll be some baked goods, some eggs, possibly some apples,” Osten added. “Some hearty garden produce like potatoes and onions and sweet potatoes.”

Committee members with the Wayne Farmers Market will be looking at getting new signs to let everyone know where they’re at but planning for next year is right around the corner.

“But I think for the most part everybody breathes a sigh of relief for a little while and probably about February starts making plans,” Osten mentioned. “Especially if they’re garden people on what they plan to produce for the farmers market.”
