Family of 10 rescued from rural Norfolk home

NORFOLK — A large family stranded in their home southeast of the Highway 24 and 275 intersection have been rescued by Norfolk Fire and Rescue, Stanton and Madison law enforcement and state authorities. According to Norfolk Safety Director Shane Weidner, a family of ten with several children called for help after the water rushed above their basement egress windows.

The rescue operation took several hours. At one point, Norfolk emergency officials asked the public for any airboats available. Weidner says the entire family is safe and warm at this time. The major flooding is keeping rescue officials busy throughout the area. Several water rescue operations are underway.
