Family Day, Sibling Weekend To Take Over Wayne State Campus

WAYNE – Siblings of Wayne State College students and their families will be kept busy during another weekend full of activities put on during Family Day.

The Student Activities Board (SAB) will host the event on Saturday, September 14 from 9 a.m. until a firework show at dusk.

The Office of Residence Life is also inviting relatives and friends ages 6 – 16 to spend the night or weekend on campus with their older brother or sister. Youngsters may sign-up for Little Sibling Weekend now until the day of the event. WSC students will be responsible for hosting and supervising their sibling(s).

Registration will take place from 9 – 11 a.m. in the Kanter Student Center atrium on Saturday with a balloon artist, face painters, arts and crafts along with discounted tickets to the football game ($5 for adults/$3 for K-12); Chartwell’s meal tickets (brunch $8/dinner $8 or both meals for $15) and free planetarium tickets. Planetarium shows of ‘STARS’ will be held at 11 a.m.; ‘Earth, Moon and Sun’ at noon; ‘Dawn of the Space Age’ at 1 p.m.; ‘Astronaut’ at 2 p.m. and ‘Oasis in Space’ at 3 p.m. The WSC Planetarium is located in the lowest level of the Carhart Science building.

The bookstore in the student center will be open from 9 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.

Both the student and sibling may participate in a variety of age-appropriate activities throughout the weekend as from 1 – 1:30 p.m. several games will be held in the Willow Bowl. The “sibling” does not have to be an actual sibling and can be a cousin, friend, neighbor or other young people are eligible. WSC students may host a maximum of four “siblings” and will need to contact the Residence Life office at 402-375-7318 to make a request in hosting more.

Memorial Stadium gates will open at 4:30 p.m. with the Panda Pix photo booth available until the third quarter of the game. The Wayne State College football team is hosting Southwest Minnesota State with kickoff set for 6 p.m. There will also be a tailgate hosted by Pac N Save with cost for adults being $8 and students K-12 $5.

Following the game, a fireworks display will be set off sponsored by Chartwell’s and the WSC Student Senate.
