Failure To Stop At Stop Sign Leads To Two Vehicle Accident, One Fatality

HARTINGTON – A 911 call was received by the Cedar County Sheriff’s Office Wednesday evening regarding an accident resulting in a fatality.

According to a release, the call was taken at approximately 7:06 p.m. on March 9 with the accident occurring at the junction of HWY 81 and HWY 84 (located approximately nine miles west of Hartington in Cedar County).

A 2017 Nissan Altima, driven by Elizabeth Soisouvanh, 21, of Waldron, Arkansas, was westbound on HWY 84, approaching the HWY 84/81 junction where she failed to stop at the stop sign. She was then struck by a 2004 Kenworth W900, driven by Loren Beitelspacher, 52, of Aberdeen, South Dakota that was traveling southbound on HWY 81.

Soisouvanh was pronounced deceased at the scene. Beitelspacher was transported to Avera Sacred Heart Hospital, to be treated for his injuries. Vehicle restraints were in use by Soisouvanh while vehicle restraints were not in use by Beitelspacher.

Joining the Cedar County Sheriff’s Office were Crofton Fire and EMS, Nebraska Department of Roads and Cedar Knox Public Power.
