Enjoy Great Food, Band Performances As Well As Music During An Annual Social Event Thursday

WAYNE – Join the Wayne Community Schools Music Boosters’ Sandwich, Pie and Ice Cream Social Thursday, March 15 from 5 – 8 p.m.

In her 13th year at Wayne Community Schools, Vocal Music Teacher Tracy Anderson said she was student teaching in 2000 and the event was going strong then, but was a soup dinner at the City Auditorium.

“It was a vibrant atmosphere, although it was hard to hear the performing groups because all the people were eating right in the same place,” said Anderson. “So, now it’s a little better we got the performance up in the gym and all the meals going down in the lower level. So, it kind of separates the two but yet we can have a really successful event.”

Sloppy joes, pie and ice cream will be available for a free will donation. Food will be located in the Commons of the Wayne Jr/Sr High School.

All the parents and community members will be getting a taste of what the students have been working on as the other half of the social will be held in the gymnasium.

“A lot of times parents and people can’t see the progress we’ve made,” Anderson added. “Because they only usually only see the final product. So, we’re going to probably put out a few things out there that are not quite ready yet, but we want to show where we’re at with it.”

Performances will open with the fifth-grade band (5:15-5:30 p.m.); sixth grade band (5:15-5:30 p.m.); seventh/eighth grade choir (5:30-5:50 p.m.); seventh/eighth grade band (5:50-6:10 p.m.) and the seventh/eighth grade jazz band (6:10-6:25) before getting to the high school level. The HS jazz choir will follow (6:25-6:45 p.m.); high school jazz band (6:45-7 p.m.); high school choir (7-7:35 p.m.) and closing out with the high school band (7:35-8 p.m.)

Anderson appreciates all who help support the event.

“Especially from the parents that have brought items for the meal and then also for all that free will donation given,” Anderson mentioned. “Because, it definitely goes to support a lot of the programs and a lot of the equipment we need, and it goes above and beyond what the school is able to do for us.”

There may also be a tease for the Wayne Community Schools musical of “Damn Yankees”. Performances will be scheduled for Friday, April 6 – Sunday, April 7 as tickets will be going on sale in the coming days.
