EMERSON – A northeast Nebraska village was recently presented a bulletproof vest.
From the Village of Emerson office (511 North Main Street), the Emerson Police Department was awarded Tuesday through the League Association of Risk Management (LARM) Armor Program.
It is vitally important for law enforcement officers to have the proper safety precautions when encountering dangerous individuals in their line of duty, including wearing a bulletproof vest.
LARM offers funds towards the purchase of a bulletproof vest for their member police departments as the LARM Armor Program provides $700 towards an approved vest for qualifying members. A requirement of being awarded funds for this program is that the department be required to show they have in place a mandatory wear policy for their patrol officers.
Emerson Police Chief Chuck Chinn applied for these funds and was presented with a bullet proof vest from LARM officials Tuesday.
Of the LARM police departments across Nebraska, 11 members have applied and will be receiving bulletproof vests as part of the LARM Armor Program.
LARM is an insurance pool made up of 170 governmental agencies across Nebraska. For more information, visit www.larmpool.org.
