Educational Activities, Shooting Simulator Offered At Ponca State Park Saturday

PONCA – Close out the month of February with a weekend visit to Ponca State Park for family-fun activities.

According to a release from Ponca State Park, participants will open a series of activities on Saturday, February 29 with ‘Under the Snow’ at 9:30 a.m. Snow acts like a blanket on the forest floor and park naturalists will explain an interactive story about the critters that stay warm all winter long under the snow. Those who attend will conduct an experiment that tests how insulations, like snow, works in cold weather.

Park-goers can also spend the morning competing between families and friends with ‘Laser Shot’ from 10:30 a.m. until noon. This shooting simulator will provide a variety of games from target practice to a virtual hunt. All age are welcome to join in the fun on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Moving into the afternoon, join a park naturalist at the pond near the Resource and Education Center to learn how to catch and clean rainbow trout. All equipment and bait will be provided during the ice fishing clinic from 1:30 – 3 p.m. as anyone who is 16 years and older will need a fishing license to patriciate. If there is not enough ice for ice fishing, visitors are welcome to tour the educational displays.

Ponca State Park officials ask participants wanting to attend the free events to stop by the Resource and Education Center.
