WAKEFIELD – Coming this June, the Little Red Hen Theatre will present an educational opportunity for area students.
Located in Wakefield (316 Main Street), the Little Red Hen Theatre will be hosting a “Drama Camp”. This camp will be a unique opportunity for students to have a drama-intensive, educational and fun experience over a two-week period this summer.
The first week of the drama camp will be held Monday, June 10 – Friday, June 14 with the second week lasting from Monday, June 17 – Friday, June 21. A showcase performance will then take place on Saturday, June 22 at 11 a.m. for friends and family with a cookie and punch reception to follow at 11:30 a.m.
Managing Director with LRHT, Adam Goos said the camp is focused on the individual skills.
“So, we’re not trying to make the best actor possible or have the best show we can at the end of this,” said Goos. “It’s really about focusing on activities that teach those basic skills of collaboration – creative thinking, communication and instilling confidence.”
This camp is limited to 20 participants per age level and designed for students entering kindergarten the Fall of 2019 through those who just got out of eighth grade.
Campers will perform their own stories derived from TARZAN® and is a fun way for youth to explore and express creativity.
“The kids will be coming up with scenes and scenarios that they script and they work together to act out,” Goos added. “Again, it’s not about the end product, it’s really about the process and what the kids are doing and what they are learning through participation.”
The daily schedule for students in K-2 will attend at 3:30 p.m.; followed by third – fifth graders at 4:30 p.m. and sixth – eighth grade students at 5:30 p.m. Cost to attend is $20 per camper with financial aid and scholarship funds available for students or families who demonstrate need. Students who won’t be able to attend the entire camp are encouraged to sign up for the first week.
Scott M. Mead will be the teacher who holds an MFA in Drama Theatre for the Young from Eastern Michigan University and undergraduate degrees in theatre and Education from Wayne State College.
