LINCOLN – With high schools, colleges and universities beginning their fall 2020 semester in mid-to-late August another round of COVID-19 updates and Test Nebraska testing sites were posted by the Department of Health and Human Services.

According to the Friday release from DHHS, the state case total was 29,988 entering the weekend. This was an increase of 1,884 from the week prior. There were also 16 new COVID-19 related deaths in the state, for a total of 361. A total of 22,004 Nebraskans diagnosed with COVID-19 have since recovered.

The daily average of positive cases is for August 8-14 to 269, compared to 270 and 291 in prior weeks, but remains above the daily average of 259 three weeks ago.

DHHS officials want to remind Nebraskans the six rules of keeping your distance, wear a face covering, wash your hands, know your risk, stay home and get tested.

For those returning to school, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is offering planning checklists to help prepare for in-person, virtual or at-home learning.

Also, Test Nebraska continues to expand its lab capacity from 3,600 to 7,000 with more appointments being added as capacity increases. More testing is intended to help long-term care facilities, schools and communities identify COVID-19 cases and respond to slow virus spread.

Those participating in any group activity where masks were not worn and social distancing did not occur are encouraged to get a COVID-19 test.

Three northeast Nebraska communities continue to host these testing sites of Madison, Norfolk and West Point.

The Test Nebraska site in Madison will be at the Midtown Health Center located at 222 Main Street from 3 – 5 p.m. on Monday, August 17.

A Norfolk location will be at the Faith Regional COVID Test Clinic at 301 North 31st Street on Tuesday, August 18 – Wednesday, August 19 as well as Tuesday, August 25 – Wednesday, August 26 from 8 a.m. until noon. The other Test Nebraska site will be from the Midtown Health Center at 900 West Norfolk Ave. which will be a walk-in opportunity on Monday, August 17 from 8 – 10 a.m.

The West Point location will be from Franciscan Care Services at 430 North Monitor Street Monday, August 17 – Friday, August 21 and Monday, August 24 – Friday, August 28 between 10 a.m. and noon.

Phase 3 Directed Health Measure (DHM) restrictions continue through Aug. 31 for 66 counties, with 27 counties in Phase 4.
