WAYNE – With just a few discussion and action items on the Wayne County Board of Commissioners regularly scheduled agenda, the meeting lasted under an hour.
From the Wayne County Courthouse courtroom Tuesday morning, commissioners approved lodging tax applications for Bressler-Fest, Winside Craft Show, Christmas-N-Carroll, Christmas on Main in Wayne, NE Traveler magazine and Hoskins Craft Show.
Item 19-17 was deferred to the commissioners for the Maintenance Exchange/Caring for County Courthouses workshop sponsored by the Nebraska Association of County Officials and Berggren Architects. The application was outside the Visitors Bureau’s guidelines. The workshop will be held on Thursday, October 17 as updates for the Courthouse Restoration project will be brought up during that time.
Highway superintendent, Mark Casey provided updates on several projects and received board authorization to sign the utility application pertaining to Klein Electric’s BNT Broadband work. The fiber optics will be placed in District 1 (Terry Sievers). Casey also requested that the commissioners and some others attend an assignment workshop on November 7 in Norfolk. At least five officials from Wayne County will need to be in attendance as the workshop will discuss traffic control, road signage and more.
Charla Nedza with Goldenrod Housing Agency presented to the board information about a name change. The Northeast Nebraska Joint Housing Agency will be dissolving their corporation and as of December of 2018, Goldenrod began managing the agency.
The regional housing agency, based in Wisner, provides Section 8 Housing Choice Vouchers to low-income individuals needing a little help to live in safe, decent and affordable housing serving both families and singles.
Goldenrod Regional Housing Agency offers the same programs as the Northeast Nebraska Joint Housing Agency and were needing resolutions signed by Dakota, Dixon and Wayne County Commissioners. The Wayne commissioners signed the resolution as the county merges into the Goldenrod housing agency jurisdiction.
The next Wayne County Board of Commissioners meeting will be held on Tuesday, November 5 at 9 a.m.
