Countertop Bid For Treasurer Office Approved, Restoration Project Discussion Continues

WAYNE – The final regularly scheduled Wayne County Board of Commissioners saw several updates Tuesday morning.

From the Wayne County Courthouse courtroom, the board heard an update from the treasurer’s office. County treasurer, Tammy Paustian stated to the board she went out and asked 14 people to get a bid on their handicap accessible countertop and only two bids were sent back from one person. With the work needing to be done after hours and on the weekend, that turned away most of the people.

The space where the handicap accessible countertop would be installed, would be cut out to re-use the same countertop.

The commissioners approved the bid of $1,825 from Daryl Lindsay for work on the treasurer countertop with an additional $750 if they can’t use original countertop. Paustian added she’ll need the commissioners help and some of their employees during the evening of Friday, October 4 as the table needs to be completed before their new system goes live on October 15 according to the state as each employee will need their own drawer.

Highway superintendent, Mark Casey also discussed with the board about NextEra’s Sholes project bringing some individuals out of Florida to dispute a bill of $59,000. Casey mentioned the board it would be wise to bring in a representative from Mainelli Wagner & Associates and have the facts ready during the next meeting as the board has seen some issues with access drives as well. A good chunk of the May 1 bill was grader work as NextEra didn’t question the first two bills.

Doug Elting, engineer through Berggren also attended the meeting as the commissioners had several questions about the blueprint for the courthouse exterior restoration project. Elting went through drainage talk with the possibility of sidewalk removal between the courthouse and sheriff’s office. He also stated the shingles should arrive in 6-8 weeks after the color was recently approved.

Commissioners then ended the meeting by starting their budget work session.

The next regularly scheduled Wayne County Board of Commissioners meeting will be on Tuesday, September 3 at 9 a.m.
