Connecting Young Nebraskans Scheduled For Next Week, Young Professionals Group Promotes Activities

WAYNE – With other groups in the past being similar to the Wayne Young Professionals, community members were updated on what WYP has been up to in their past year of existence.

From Ameriprise Financial, steering committee members from Wayne Young Professionals hosted Friday morning Chamber Coffee. Three of the members are Abby Schademann (Marking, Events and Tourism Coordinator with WAED), Laura Robinett (Director of Alumni Relations at WSC) and Justin Davis (Financial Advisor with Rath, Walling & Associates).

Robinett said Wayne Young Professionals have added a few more individuals to their steering committee in recent meetings as it’s welcome to anyone.

“Has ideas to plan for events or different networking opportunities that we can have,” said Robinett. “So, it’s really pretty informal and we invite anyone to just partake in the actual events or be part of the planning process.”

The steering committee meets usually on the last Wednesday of each month. Discussion is had about previous events while previewing upcoming activities.

Davis added what the focus of Wayne Young Professionals is about.

“Who to contact to be a part of a different group or organization,” Davis added. “So, getting people with similar interests, likes and lifestyles together you can kind of bridge those networks and connections.”

A couple months ago the Wayne Young Professionals steering committee decided to meet three times a month since everyone has a busy schedule. WYP hosts a breakfast on the first Wednesday, a lunch during the second Wednesday along with a social on the third/fourth Wednesday of each month

The group has seen consistent turnout to each event, but it also includes different people showing up who bring their friends along.

Next week, Connecting Young Nebraskans will be held state-wide to celebrate young professional groups. The Wayne Young Professionals will be partnering with Wayne State College during their homecoming activities with a mid-week event, according to Schademann.

“On Wednesday (9/26) we’ll be doing Lunch with Leaders at Wayne State College,” Schademann mentioned. “So, you can come in and have lunch and learn more about what our community leaders are involved in and how they got there.”

The event will be held from noon until 1 p.m. in the Niobrara Room of the Kanter Student Center.

Wayne Young Professionals are invited to participate in City Solve “Amazing Race-style” on Monday and then during the homecoming game on Saturday join the Wayne State College Alumni GOLD tailgate.

Johnnie Byrd Brewing Company will be the next Friday morning Chamber Coffee host on September 28 at 10 a.m.
