LINCOLN – This week, April 5 – 9, has been designated as Community Development Week (CD Week) for the state of Nebraska. North Platte was awarded the 2021 “Governor’s Showcase Community Award” by Governor Pete Ricketts.

Leading up to this week, the Nebraska Department of Economic Development (DED) accepted nominations for the award. The department looks for nominees that show economic progress.

North Platte has revitalized its community. They have expanded business, industry, and healthcare. Refreshing its downtown area, developing housing, and improving entertainment and retail have all been specific ways North Platte managed to create a new buzz.

CD Week is intended to highlight and celebrate economic successes around the state. Recognizing results of state and federal resources is apart of this week’s observance. The federal Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and HOME Investment Partnerships (HOME) were mentioned as important programs, according to the DED.
