UPDATE: Man Dead After Combine and SUV Collide

NORFOLK – A Battle Creek man is dead after an accident Tuesday night.

Madison County Sheriff Vern Hjorth says deputies responded to the collision four miles west of Norfolk on Highway 275 around 8:00 PM.  He says an SUV, driven by 68-year-old Douglas Rakowsky of rural Battle Creek, collided with a John Deer Combine driven by Mark Freudenberg of rural Madison.  Rakowsky was pronounced dead on the scene.

Hjorth says the highway was shut down for about three hours.

On November 20th around 8 PM the Madison County Sheriff’s Department responded to a fatal accident on Highway 275.

Norfolk Fire and Rescue, Battle Creek Fire and Rescue, Norfolk PD, Nebraska State Patrol and Battle Creek PD all responded to the accident.

The accident remains under investigation.

NORFOLK — First responders are reacting to an accident scene in northeast Nebraska Tuesday night.

Norfolk Fire and Rescue responded to a call of an SUV vs. combine collision on Highway 275 four miles west of Norfolk around 8:30 PM.

Authorities shut down the westbound lanes of the highway and rerouted traffic. The SUV is totaled and appeared to have caught on fire.

Details about injuries are unknown. The Nebraska State Patrol and Battle Creek Fire also responded to the scene.
