Classes Cancelled Due To Sickness

WAKEFIELD – An elementary school in Northeast Nebraska has canceled classes for the rest of the week because of the flu.

Wakefield Elementary canceled classes Thursday and Friday because around a quarter of the students are out sick.

Elementary Principal Jared Wulf says the number of sick students has been rising all week, with 83 gone on Wednesday.

“We were kind of surprised that it hasn’t hit the high school yet.” Wulf said.

He also says staff is working during the closure to disinfect and clean classrooms, hoping on Monday all the students will be fully recovered.

7th through 12th grade will still have regular classes.
