Christmas In Wayne Event Schedule, Holiday Stamp Card Promotion Begins Thursday

WAYNE – With the holiday season approaching, so are several events being planned by Wayne Area Economic Development.

Christmas in Wayne will return with a lighted parade beginning this Thursday, November 18.

Abby Schademann is the Marketing, Events and Tourism Coordinator at WAED. She said the evening will be filled with open houses and holiday spirited events.

“A couple years ago we did change it from Christmas on Main to Christmas in Wayne because there’s a lot of different things that happen in Wayne on that evening,” said Schademann. “So, festivities will begin at 5:30 p.m. on that evening and there’ll be open houses with different business (and) trolley rides will begin that night at 5:30 p.m. and will run until 8 o’clock.”

The trolley will be stopping at Bomgaars, WW Galore, Ace Hardware and Home as well as the Wayne Greenhouse. Guests are welcome to park at these locations, shop at local businesses and then get on the trolley to be dropped off downtown. This is a free event.

Santa will also be at the Majestic Theatre following the lighted parade for a photo opportunity.

The parade of lights will begin at 6:30 pm.

“So, yeah it’s going to bring a lot of people out and about,” Schademann added. “We were unfortunately unable to have a Parade of Lights last year due to COVID. But we’re very excited to see everyone again and just get into the holiday spirit.”

Thursday’s parade route will begin from 6th Street heading south on Main Street to First Street. Participating entries can use the Courthouse parking areas for staging. No numbers are issued but plan on making an orderly line. No items can be tossed from the float but can be handed out along the parade route. WAED officials ask respectfully, please do not include a live Santa Claus in your entry as the planning committee will host the official Santa in the parade.

November 18 will also be first day for the Holiday Stamp Card Promotion. Schademann mentioned there are 24 participating businesses involved.

“So, if you shop at any of those businesses and spend $5, $10 or any amount of money really,” Schademann mentioned. “You’ll get a card and it’s stamped with the amount that you spent, if you get up to $100 (each card is worth $100), but then you can turn that in.”
