Chicken Show Parade, 5K Registration Deadlines Are July 1

WAYNE – With the Wayne Chicken Show just over a week away, some event deadlines are scheduled for Thursday, July 1.

Both the parade and Wayne Chicken Run will be held on Saturday, July 10 while the live cement chicken auction will be on Friday, July 9.

The 41st annual Wayne Chicken Show will last from Friday, July 9 – Sunday, July 11 with events for the entire family.

This year’s parade will begin at 9:30 a.m. with entries being requested to line up by 9:15 a.m. Fee and completed entry form for each entry is $10 and due by July 1. To enter, return a copy of the registration form and the appropriate entry fee by the July 1 deadline. Feel free to call Wayne Area Economic Development at 402-375-2240 if you have any questions.

Businesses, organizations, groups, reunions, families and individuals are welcome to participate as only entries using the 2021 Theme or a chicken related theme will be eligible for judging. The parade will go north from 1st and Main Street to 10th Street, then west on 10th Street and South on Lincoln Street ending at 7th street. Make sure to proceed to 7th Street before stopping.

2021 parade information

The Wayne Rotary Club will be organizing the parade on behalf of the Wayne Chicken Show Committee. This year’s theme is ‘Wayne America’s Chicken Vacation’. Best 2021 Theme related will receive $100, Best Overall Chicken related will be awarded $50 and a $25 prize will be given to the Best Children’s entry.

Candy or treats can be passed out or thrown from the curb only, not from float or vehicle. Also, each entry with a water feature must be respectful of electronics (no drenching of the spectators).  Entries with animals must also clean up waste immediately.

Parade line up numbers will be posted to chickenshow.com on Thursday, July 8 as you can pick up your printed number at the information booth on Henoween (Friday, July 9) or at 1st and Pearl Street after 8:00 a.m. on Saturday. You may also create your own number sign as numbers need to be displayed on the passenger side of your vehicle. Also, when lining up, do not block driveways, side streets or alleys. Once you reach the end of the parade, exit south on Lincoln Street or West on 7th Street.

 

Also, Providence Medical Center is putting on the Wayne Chicken Run 5K in conjunction with the Wayne Chicken Show. Online registration ends at 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday, July 7 with limited race day registration being from 6 – 6:45 a.m. on Saturday, July 10 (race day). Dry-fit shirts will be given to all participants, but PMC will not be able to guarantee you a shirt if you register after July 1. Cost is $25 to register as runners will be broken into multiple age groups.

Packet pick-up will be from 2 – 7 p.m. at Providence Wellness Center on Friday, July 9 or the morning of the race between 6 – 6:45 a.m. as the 5k will begin at 7 a.m. The route will be marked and water will be available on the course with the Chicken Run 5k course beginning and ending at PMC.

 

The Cement Chicken Auction will take place at 7 p.m. on Friday, July 9 on stage at 3rd & Main. Those who are decorating their cement chicken have until July 1 to return the decorated item that will then be auctioned off next week.
