Chicken Show Festivities Welcomed Back During Henoween, Saturday Park Events Canceled

All Saturday afternoon events at Bressler Park have been canceled due to weather. Sons of Satan will perform at the City Auditorium at 8 p.m. this evening while ‘Chicken Run’ will be showed at the Majestic Theatre at 9:15 p.m. this evening.

ALL Sunday events will carry on as planned with the Crowing Motors Car Show lasting from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. at 2nd Street in Wayne.

WAYNE – As fireworks concluded the evening of the 41st annual Wayne Chicken Show (just beating the overnight storm), the morning began with chamber coffee hosted by the Chicken Show Committee and the Clucktique Sidewalk market.

Moving into the late afternoon and evening hours, families enjoyed the ‘World’s Largest Chicken Dance’ put on by KTCH/KCTY along with several other activities in downtown Wayne, Friday evening.

Irene Fletcher Mock, Assistant Director at Wayne Area Economic Development was excited to see everyone at Henoween.

“It is back and people have showed up,” said Fletcher Mock. “We are so excited; we really have a good crowd. They’ve been trickling in all day for the events and activities. But they’re up and town the street tonight (Friday) for all the vendors, the activities.”

Stage activities included a Quilts of Valor presentation along with the highly anticipated cement chicken auction. Revenue raised from the auction is used to pay the band and keep all the other activities free.

“It’s a three-day festival of events and activities and you’re only going to have to pay for your food and souvenirs; all the other things are provided free,” Fletcher Mock added. “Cement Chicken auction is one of those as the other major component of that is the t-shirt sales.”

WAED put in a re-order for additional shirts and have sold out of almost all of the sizes of the chicken show shirts.

The Little chicken auction will be held Saturday afternoon after 1 p.m.

Pizza Hut’s hot wing eating contest along with free entertainment from Good Morning Bedlam closed out downtown events prior to the ‘Light Up the Sky’ Fireworks.

Saturday morning’s parade is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. as events will be going on rain or shine.

“We are a little bit concerned about tomorrow’s forecast (Saturday),” Fletcher Mock mentioned. “We are a rain or shine event; we don’t have any indoor options necessarily. We just tell people to make the best choice based on whatever weather is at hand.”

This year’s theme is ‘Wayne America’s Chicken Vacation’ and you can visit for more information.
