Chicken Show Festivities Continue With Jam Packed Saturday

WAYNE – Families and friends joined in on the fun of Henoween during the 42nd annual Wayne Chicken Show throughout Friday.

Morning activities featured a Clucktique Sidewalk Market as well as Friday morning Chamber Coffee into the evening of the World’s Largest Chicken Dance put on by KTCH/KCTY as well as stage events.

The Quilts of Valor made a presentation followed by the cement chicken auction, hot wing eating contest and a comedy show with Glenn Tickle, Pat Janssen and Kaden Hopkins.

Friday night concluded with the Light Up The Sky Fireworks show.

A busy Saturday will next take over with the main morning event being the Wayne Chicken Show parade at 9:30 a.m. The route will start at 1st and Main Street and go north up to 10th and Main before going towards Bressler Park and then south on Lincoln Street ending at 7th Street.

Indoor and outdoor seating will be offered for the Kiwanis Omelet Feed from 7:30 – 9:30 a.m. on Saturday from 2nd and Main Street.

The Masonic Lodge at 10th and Lincoln Street will host their quilt show from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. with the Chicken quilt raffle drawing at 3 p.m. on Saturday.

A Chicken Crowing Contest will also be offered at 9 a.m. from Bressler Park as participants can bring their own or rent one to see who will crow the most.

Blue Cat Gallery (114 West 3rd Street) will host their “Chickens & Other Signs of Rural Life” art exhibit from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. with Ekeko Galleries (110 Main Street) will have their art exhibit “Signs of Rural Life: Junior Division” during the same time.

Self-guided tours will be available from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the Wayne County Museum located at 702 Pearl Street also Saturday.

Saturday Chicken Show Contests will begin at 1 p.m. with the ‘Chicken Scratch for Prizes’ event, ‘Live Chicken Flying’ and ‘Best Chicken Legs’.

The Wayne Chicken Show National Cluck-off is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. before moving into the ‘Hard Boiled Egg Eating’ contest.

Other afternoon free events include the ‘Rubber Chicken Chuck’, ‘Egg Toss’ as well as ‘Egg Drop/Catch’ lasting until around 4 p.m. on Saturday at Bressler Park.

Afternoon Planetarium shows are scheduled on the hour from noon until 4 p.m. (last start time) ranging from ‘Astronaut’; ‘Earth, Moon and Sun’; ‘Oasis in Space’; ‘My House Has Stars’ and ‘STARS’.

The Wayne Community Schools Foundation will be hosting their All-Class Reunion starting at 6 p.m. from the City Auditorium on Saturday. Sons of Satan will then provide music from 8 p.m. until midnight.

Another event taking place at Bressler Park Saturday evening will be a free movie (original Space Jam) put on by the Majestic Theatre at 9 p.m. (after dark).

Other free entertainment will be provided on Saturday at noon with Mike & Jay along with Bressler-fest offering music in the park featuring AquaDog at 5 p.m. on Sunday. Both events will be at Bressler Park.

Sunday’s highlight will be the Crowing Motors Car Show with all vehicles welcome at no cost on 2nd Street between Main and Pearl Streets. Prizes will be awarded on spectator vote. Reach out to Kirk Sommerfeld at 402-375-4996 for more information.
