Chamber Updates, Vendor Golf Invite Deadline Friday

WAYNE – Executive Director for Wayne Area Economic Development, Luke Virgil joined Dan on the “View from Wayne America” earlier this week providing more updates from the chamber office.

Virgil has been keeping an eye out for local businesses and working with those who contact the WAED office. Virgil stated he has received questions about the Small Business Stabilization Grants through the Department of Economic Development.

“Like will that grant affect their tax burden at the end of 2020, when are the funds going to be distributed (and) when are they going to get noticed of their award,” said Virgil. “Questions like that, that we’ve been trying to work with the Department of Economic Development on.”

As a community, Virgil wants everyone to keep supporting their local businesses.

“Stay smart,” Virgil added. “I mean we need to continue to be good about social distancing. Wear a mask when social distancing is not feasible and just take care of each other. I think we’re be better off a as a community.”

The annual Vendor Golf Invitational is right around the corner as Virgil mentioned the group was a little concerned about whether the event could be held.

“In May we made a decision to push it back a few weeks,” Virgil mentioned. “Traditionally it’s the third week of July on a Thursday. This year we’re doing it on August 6. We have been soliciting registration forms for potential teams.”

The goal was to get a minimum of 15 teams at the Wayne Country Club and that threshold has been met with plenty of room for more teams. Registration is $110 per golfer or $440 for a team which includes green fees, cart fees, drink tickets, commemorative gift, sack lunch and dinner. The deadline to sign-up is Friday, July 31.

A Business After Hours event will also be held on Thursday, August 13 at the Birch Room on the patio.
