BROKEN BOW—Since 1971 the Central Nebraska Medical Clinic (CNMC) has been providing full spectrum family medical care to its patients. Now, the Broken Bow based clinic is able to serve patients more efficiently in a larger, state-of-the-art space. A ribbon cutting and open house were held on Wednesday to celebrate the grand opening.

Lieutenant Governor Mike Foley and District #36 Senator Matt Williams visited Broken Bow on Tuesday and received a tour of the new facility. Jennie M. Melham Memorial Medical Center (JMMMMC) CEO Veronica Schmidt said during the ribbon cutting that it has been a great partnership between the clinic and the hospital.

The former Heritage Hall nursing home was gutted and remodeled, with the renovation process lasting approximately nine months. The new clinic is located just north of the hospital and the former clinic. Clinic Administrator Tess Sinner said the former clinic had the staff, but not the space to serve patients in a timely manner.

“The problem was that it was hard getting all the patients in. You know there were patients needing in and we might’ve had the staff, but we just didn’t have a place to put them. So that’s one of the things, you know, the new updated facility here—it’s bigger, we can get more patients in, and I think we can be more efficient,” Sinner said.

Clinic staff officially moved in on April 23 and only had to close for half a day to make the move. CNMC employs forty-one staff members including three medical doctors, and five mid-level providers—four physician assistants and a nurse practitioner.

Doctors David Minnick, MD; Julie Lindstrom, DO; and Robert Kahnk, MD provide a wide array of family medical care and also work as co-owners of the clinic.

The new space now features 24 exam rooms (formerly 17) and two procedure rooms (formerly one procedure room). Tess Sinner said the x-ray, lab rooms, and physical capacity testing rooms are larger. As a whole, clinic offices are more spread out and spacious. A bit of new furniture, equipment, and technology came along with the move and Sinner is grateful for an updated phone system.

“We were kind of limited with how many patients we could see a day and how many providers we could put into this building in a day. Now we have ten doctor’s offices, as I told you we only have eight providers, I think we can grow. I think we can grow here, I think we can help the community to grow, we can serve the community by being able to see more of them, doing more efficient work,” Sinner said.

CNMC is an independent physician practice from Melham Medical Center but the clinic rents the space from the hospital. Sinner looks at the relationship between the two health care providers as a successful partnership and is grateful for the staff at Melham who recognized the clinic needed more space, and provided the funding for the renovation. Sinner said the clinic has signed a new lease with the hospital for the space.

“We’re just really happy that the hospital had the forethought to say hey, ‘we have some space, can you use it? And built a great partnership to, you know, be able to use the space, update our technology, and be able to serve the community,” Sinner said.

CNMC is located at Laurel Drive and Memorial Drive in Broken Bow (west of JMMMMC entrance) and also has satellite locations in Arcadia and Sargent.
