Cedar County Accident Leads To Second Fatality In Week

HARTINGTON – A two vehicle accident was reported Thursday morning in northeast Nebraska which led to one fatality.

According to a release from the Cedar County Sheriff’s Office, the accident occurred at the intersection of Highway 12 and the 14A Spur in Cedar County.

A Ford Edge driven by 48-year old Kristopher Arens of Fordyce, Nebraska failed to yield to an eastbound Peterbilt semi-truck driven by 61-year old Jonathan Kelly of Livingston, Montana. Arens, the only occupant of the Ford Edge, was pronounced dead at het scene and was not wearing his seatbelt.

Kelly, the only occupant of the Peterbilt, was treated and released at the Avera Sacred Heart hospital in Yankton, South Dakota.

The accident remains under investigation by the Cedar County Sheriff’s office.

Assisting the Cedar County Sheriff’s office were Fordyce Fire, Hartington Fire and Rescue, Nebraska State Patrol, Nebraska Game and Parks as well as the Nebraska Department of Roads.
