Business After Hours Slated For Thursday Evening

WAYNE – As Wayne Area Economic Development officials have been able to host their in-person Friday morning chamber coffee recently, an evening event is scheduled this week.

The WAED Business After Hours is a time for networking and is scheduled for Thursday, August 13 from the Birch Room Chophouse between 5:30 – 7 p.m. The Birch Room is located just north of the Wayne Country Club off of Highway 15.

Abby Schademann is the Marketing, Tourism and Events Coordinator with WAED. She talked more about Business After Hours.

“To give those businesses a chance to meet outside the normal business hours,” said Schademann. “It’s very casual, but still you’re able to make the connections and meet new people.”

Those who attend will be encouraged to physical distance themselves as masks are optional. The garage door will be open to the patio into the Birch Room as there’ll be music following Business After Hours.

Thursday night will also offer a tailgate theme as all are being encouraged to wear their favorite team apparel.

“You don’t have to come straight from work and still be in your business clothes if you want, but if that’s what you prefer that’s totally okay,” Schademann added. “We’re doing a mystery box raffle and that will be along the theme of tailgate. We’ll have some different items from different businesses around Wayne.”

Cost to attend is $10 which includes appetizers as those who purchased their tickets before August 12 received one free raffle ticket. Raffle tickets are three for $5 and 12 for $10 as money raised supports the chamber.

Contact the Wayne Area Economic Development office at 402-375-2240, stop by their office at 108 West 3rd Street or email Schademann at to purchase tickets. Cash, check or credit cards will be accepted.

Sponsors for Thursday night’s Business After Hours are State Nebraska Bank & Trust, F&M Bank, Elkhorn Valley Bank & Trust, Mikey C Productions, Providence Medical Center and Farmers State Bank in Carroll.

Preparation also continues for the 40th annual Wayne Chicken Show scheduled now on Saturday, September 12 at the Wayne County Fairgrounds.

“We’re still moving forward with our plans to host the Chicken Show on September 12,” Schademann mentioned. “We’ll be coming out with a little bit more information on what that day will look like here shortly.”

There’ll be no in-person Friday morning Chamber Coffee on August 14 at 10 a.m. but ChamberPercs will feature a sit-down between WAED Executive Director, Luke Virgil and WSC President, Dr. Marysz Rames. The conversation can be viewed on the Wayne, NE Facebook page at 11 a.m. on Friday, August 14.

Next week’s Friday morning Chamber Coffee host will be the Wayne Herald on August 21 at 10 a.m.
