Blue Devil Speech Secures Top 10 Finish During Norfolk Classic, Wayne State Campus To Host Conference & District Speech Meets

NORFOLK – As high school Mid State speech teams make their way to Wayne State College for conference competition, the Wayne High speech team is coming off a top-10 finish over the weekend.

The Blue Devil speech team closed out their regular season during the Norfolk Panther Classic Speech Invitational Saturday.

In the team sweepstakes, WHS placed seventh out of the 27 schools who attended.

Top results for Wayne High came from Liam Spieker (3rd – Entertainment) as the Oral Interpretation of Drama team placed third of Isaac Davis, Christopher Woerdemann, Liam Spieker, Walker Hochstein and Dylan Anderson.

Sixth-place finishes came from Isaac Davis (Extemporaneous) and Hannah Vick (Poetry).

Other Blue Devils who placed saw Christopher Woerdemann (12th – Extemporaneous); Claire Lindsay (13th – Persuasive); Kaden Hopkins (16th – Humorous); Dylan Anderson (18th – overall Entertainment) and Orion Spieker (18th – Humorous Prose).

The Wayne High speech team will next compete in the Mid State Conference meet on Wednesday, March 11. The B-3 District Tournament is also scheduled for Saturday, March 14 also on the campus of Wayne State College.

The 2020 NSAA State Speech Meet will be hosted on the University of Nebraska-Kearney campus on Thursday, March 27 for Classes A-C1 and Friday, March 28 for Classes C2-D2. Registration will begin at 7 a.m. each day.
