Blue Devil Speech Season Opens Saturday, Several Home Events Featured

WAYNE – After hosting three speech camps the past three months, the 2020 speech season will begin this weekend for Wayne Community Schools.

The first speech competition is scheduled for Saturday, January 18 during the Pierce Invite while the Wayne speech team will close out the month on Saturday, January 25 taking part in the Boone Central/Newman Grove Invite in Albion.

February meets include Hartington/Hartington Cedar Catholic Invite on Saturday, February 1; Wayne High/Wayne State College Invite on Saturday, February 8; Wisner-Pilger Invite on Saturday, February 22 and Battle Creek Invite on Saturday, February 29.

The month of February will also feature the Wayne Home Show scheduled for 6 p.m. from the Wayne Jr/Sr high school on Friday, February 14. A snow date for the WHS/WSC Classic is scheduled for Saturday, February 15.

Members on the Wayne speech team will close out their regular season during the Norfolk High Invite on Saturday, March 7 before the Mid State Speech Tournament will be held at Wayne State College on Wednesday, March 11 starting at 8 a.m. Wayne State College will also be the host for the NSAA B-4 District Speech Meet on Saturday, March 14.

State speech is scheduled for Thursday, March 26 on the University of Nebraska – Kearney campus.

The Wayne 7th – 8th grade speech team will also participate in the Norfolk Invite on Friday, April 24 and Wayne Invite on Saturday, April 25.
