Blue Devil OID, Duet Acting Teams Medal During Class B Sate Speech Championships

KEARNEY – Both events that competed for Wayne High during the NSAA State Speech Championships made it the finals Wednesday afternoon.

From Kearney High School, Classes A and B state speech qualifiers were in action.

As a team, Wayne High finished 10th with 28 points in the team sweepstakes. York was crowned Class B champions with 146 points while Gering placed runner-up with 94 points.

From Wayne in Class B, the Oral Interpretation of Drama team made up of Kaden Hopkins, Orion Spieker, Easton Blecke, Ashton Brandow and Ethan Wibben matched their district finish placing third at state with 16 points.

Also, the Blue Devil duet acting team of Brooklyn Bierbower and Kaden Hopkins earned 12 points and a fifth place medal at state.

Another northeast Nebraska team, being Pierce, earned 10 points form the Entertainment category tying for 18th. Zach Price finished sixth for the Bluejays.


In Class A, Norfolk High tied for 10th with 28 points scoring in the Informative and OID categories. Pareena Ponniah finished third (Informative) while the OID team of Aaliyah Canchola, Abigail Chambers and Courtney Matthies placed fifth.

Millard North edged Lincoln East in the Class A team sweepstakes, 182-178.

The 2022 NSAA State Speech Championships will continue on Thursday for Classes C1/C2 and Friday for Classes D1/D2 state qualifiers.
